It all started with a potato peeler.  It’s impossible to talk about the G-Peeler without diving into Univex’s humble beginnings.  It all stated in 1948, by Jeremy’s Grandfather in his garage.

Jeremy Papadinis, Directory of Corporate Administration, recounts how during WWII his Grandfather’s job was peeling potatoes.  All the time, he kept thinking “There’s got to be a better way”.  When the war ended and he was back home, he needed to figure out what the rest of his life was going to look like; especially trying to impress the daughter of a Colonel.  Jobs in banking or the corporate world weren’t in the cards for him so he took to his garage workshop.

  In that garage, he made two prototypes of the modern day G-Peeler: one worked, one didn’t.  He packed up the working machine and drove to a government food show in New Mexico.  When he came home the following week, he was still unsure of his future. As Jeremy describes, ““He gets a call and a purchase order for 500 from the US military. And basically, he’s sitting in his garage where he made them going, ‘well, I got a problem — how am I going to make 500 of these?’”  Thus, Univex is born.
