Investing in our Machinists, Investing in our Future

When Paul Giandomenico officially became Univex’s Machine Shop Manager in August 2026, he set out with one goal: upgrade the shop. First, that meant calibrations and repairs of machinery and expanded capabilities. Just as important, It meant rebuilding his team and investing in growth and competencies of everyone on the floor.

Paul consulted his friend Anthony Bazzinotti, a 50-year industry veteran. Together they analyzed the current state of the shop top-to-bottom.  They then developed a plan to maximize up-times and developed a 4-installment CNC course for our growing team.

Over the next nine weeks, the Univex machine shop team will learn the fundamentals of CNC: writing programs, setting up jobs, choosing the right tooling, and running their program independently.

Day one began with the basics; machine functions, tools, programs and set-up. With 10 attendees across four departments, our team quickly began to establish consistent language surrounding the type of work they’ll be doing and how to better streamline their station processes. Daniel Tsiakos, VP of Sales and Marketing put it best:
“Ideally you want to strive for 100% tolerances. At the end of the day I want you to be proud of what you are machining and continue pushing yourselves to achieve those tolerances.”

By the end of the program, the shop team will have stronger skills in their daily work. In addition, professionals from Quality Control (new details to come!) and Service will be able to speak the shop’s language. As a result, they can troubleshoot with a better understanding of how our parts are made. They’ll also bring that knowledge back to their own teams.

Better machines are only half of the upgrade. The other half is a team that knows them inside and out.
